Ever since the kids headed back to school, we have been invited to several birthday parties, eight to be exact. Keep in mind this is only October and there are eight more months until the school year is over. That means at least another twenty-five more parties to attend.  What is it about birthdays and turning four years old that makes every parent want to throw their kids birthday parties? Looking back at my childhood, I didn’t get a birthday party until I was at least ten years old, and if I remember correctly it was the only one my parents ever threw for me. My, how things have changed in the past thirty years.

Usually, a couple days before the party, I take the girls with me to either Target or Walmart to help me pick out a small gift for their friend. At this age, choosing a gift is done fairly quickly, thank heavens! Most all the girls in their class are into Barbie, My Little Pony, Princesses and anything glittery.  The boys on the other hand, love anything that resembles Legos, Spaceships, Thomas The Train, Batman or Spiderman.
